A lovely find. The food was delicious. We had the fish cakes and fresh spring rolls for starters. The fresh spring rolls were full of fresh flavors and the fish cakes had a complex flavor brightened with lime leaves. Both starters came with delicious dipping sauces. We also tried the noodles (...something..See-Ew) which was yummy. We will definitely go back again.
My wife and I visited Lao Vitentiane Restaurant this past Friday (October 7th) for dinner. We started with #1 (por pai tod-spring rolls) and #3 (satay gia-coconut chicken skewers) both which were incredible! My wife ordered the chicken gang kiew with rice and I - being less adventurous tried the prawn kua ka (strifry). Both dishes arrived piping hot - my dish was cooked perfectly - the vegetables el dente, the prawns juicy and the rice was perfectly cooked and flavoured. My wife really enjoyed her curry (pefectly spiced and a nice rich flavour) and the portions were such that we enjoyed them for lunch the following day! Looking forward to trying other dishes from the very diverse menu...
I just love this type of food. A group of my asian friends tried Lao on Oct 21st to celebrate a friends birthday. The selections were great that we had hard time deciding which ones to order. One of the orders was the noodles, which were gleaming with grease with quite an interesting garnish....A piece of curly STEELWOOL! The waitress took it back and replaced it couple minutes later with somewhat dissected noodles...quite different presentation from the first one and said sorry.
Thought I'd give it a another try and took my other asian friend on October 25th for lunch around 1 pm. The crowd wasn't too bad at that time. The waitress took our order right away. 35 minutes later the people from three different tables that came after us finished their lunch. We followed up with the waitress three times. An hour later our food came which was very good and again the waitress apologized. But all I had that day was a piece of toast at 7:00 and did gardening, chopping, hauling etc until noon and by one pm I was famished. So by two o'clock I guess anything at that point tasted good.
I would recommend the sliced steak salad and chicken gang-kiew, but be prepared to hunt for the 3 small paper thin sliced of chicken in it. The green curry in it was HEAVENLY. I may give it another try to see if 3rd time is a charm - someday.
My husband and I and our friends went to dinner on Sunday, October 30. I need to point out that I am frequently dissatisfied with the fare that commercial eateries have to offer because the majority do not t meet my nutritional requirements as well as my culinary expectations and fail to titillate my taste buds. I ordered a stir fry with chicken and vegetables and was delighted to be be presented with a colourful array of fresh, crisp vegetables, beautifully spiced and accompanied by lean chicken breast and cashews--sumptuous, scrumptious and healthy. My husband had a duck curry which he relished and our friends raved about their rice and noodle dishes. Our server was a lovely young woman who took very good care of us.I have read some of the earlier comments about the need to improve service which I expect resulted from the tidal wave of customers following the TC article. it seems to me that working out service kinks comes with the territory for a brand new restaurant boasting terrific and extensive food selection at very reasonable prices.. We will certainly make it a regular destination and bring our friends.
